The journey to the state capital city was enjoyable in the luxury bus, although it did little to compensate for the bad roads. Upon arrival in Phnom Penh, we decided not to visit the Royal Palace in 37-degree heat, but instead visited the former S-21 prison of the Khmer Rouge. The museum left a lasting impression on us. Out of approximately 18,000 inmates, only 10 survived!
Back at the hotel, we inquired about our onward journey to Siem Reap the next day. As this weekend is being celebrated as the New Year festival, all buses were already fully booked, so we had to rearrange our plans and stay another night in the capital before taking a flight in the evening. Finally, we had time to relax and enjoy a beer at the pool bar :)
Next Stop: Angkor Wat!
