I'll just stay here.
No, not forever, but until the 'end' of my journey. Bornholm is such a beautiful island and my host family is great. I enjoy every day here, experience something new every day, and it never gets boring.
We spend days at the beach, go out together, play cards, or simply chat.
There's a lot of celebration and activities. The relatives and friends are so warm and open that I never feel out of place or like a stranger.
Last week, the whole family painted the house together. They quickly realized here as well that I shouldn't paint the facade if it's going to look nice.
Instead, I painted a more inconspicuous part of the house, and it turned out well. Everyone does what they can.
The past two days, I spent at my host parents' workplace and helped in the kitchen. I carved 'beautiful' cucumber balls because 'ugly is forbidden', chopped mountains of vegetables, polished cutlery, washed dishes, etc.
Even though it was a lot of work, it didn't feel like work. The two of them are so balanced and work well together that there's always time for singing and joking around.
Tomorrow, my host mother is celebrating her 50th birthday, and it will be a big celebration.
Former workawayers are also coming, despite a long journey, to come back to this beautiful island. They're coming from America, Poland, Germany, and even Australia to celebrate with Anette.
We all have the weekend and Monday 'off' to recover and make the house inhabitable again.
I will continue to enjoy my time here for the next 3 weeks.
But I'm starting to look forward to my family back home!
Because home is still the best.
