Hey Ho! 👋🏻
Time for a new travel blog post! 😃
On May 10, we had our last grading day. All of the school projects are now complete. On grading days, all the girls and all the boys get together to reflect on the past month and share prayer requests with each other. In the picture you can see all the girls from this school year! 😄😊
Finally, we took a hayride to the fort of the ranch, which burned down this time last year. A campfire was made, marshmallows were grilled, and games were played. Some played Frisbee and others played Nerf Gun. Nerf Gun is like paintball, only it doesn't hurt as much when you get hit. 😉 That night we also had a beautiful sunset. 🌅
All the students are in their summer positions now, where they will be helping out this summer. I of course stayed in the media department and will be reviewing the videos that need to be made and helping to finish them. ☺️ This year Katie, my counseling sister, is helping me with that.
Last week we had farriers here who shoed about 83 horses. That took a long time. 😅 The media team made a video about it. You should definitely check it out if you're interested. The video shows the whole process from planing off the old hoof to the new horseshoe. You can find it on YouTube on the ranch page at this link: https://youtu.be/8NeWW4N6HU4
I have always wanted to visit an Amish store. Spartensburg, Pennsylvania (about half an hour to 40 minutes away) has a few of these stores. We finally went there last Monday to check them out. 😄
These people live very minimally and mainly stay away from worldly things. For example, they are not connected to the general electricity grid. They use gas lamps, which means their stores are sometimes very dark. Usually they do not have a car or a cell phone. They move around with buggies. They use their mostly black horses and harness them in front of their carriages. Especially when driving a car in these regions, you have to be careful when encountering them on the road. 😉
In one of the stores, I approached an Amish woman because I knew that Amish people know some words from German and also use them in their everyday life. However, this was rather less pleasant because Amish people are very shy and do not like to talk to people who do not belong to them or their circle. From my experience, Amish men are much more talkative than their women. 🤷🏼♀️
After our little cultural trip, we went to a flower store and bought a flower because we were visiting a couple from church afterwards. 🥰
What else is new at the ranch? The newly built bunkhouse looks really cool! In the picture you can see how the construction is progressing. 😊 They are working on it full speed so it will be ready before the summer camps!
On May 18, we had Warren Gives Day! This is a fundraising day where each registered business tries to get donations from as many states as possible. Whoever receives money from the most states gets a bonus from the organization. We were in first place and received a total of $50,000. That's about 47,800 euros. The received money will be used to rebuild the fort of the ranch. There will probably be a bunkhouse built with sleeping facilities again. 🙂 I made a video talking a bit about the day and promoting it a bit. Here is the link to the produced video: https://youtu.be/svWCqIRlEQ4
In the media department, we are preparing our first-year students to take good pictures and create videos. Esther, a student who transferred to the media department, had the opportunity to learn how to take black and white pictures. There are two options for this. You can set it on the camera and it will only take black and white pictures, or you can take the photo in color and then edit it black and white in the Lightroom app. 📸
We had a storm here at the ranch this weekend. Since we live on a mountain, it's not too bad. But when we were on our way to church on Sunday, you could still see parts of Corry flooded. Nothing bad happened. There were just a few branches on the ground. 😅
Yesterday, a staff member had a baby shower party. On that day, we celebrated with her as she is expecting her first baby. Everything was nicely decorated and there was also a game: Who knows the guests best? Everyone got a piece of paper. You had to find someone who, for example, has two children, wears something red, has been married for more than 10 years, etc. You were supposed to have the person sign the paper agreeing to something, and whoever filled out their paper first won.
One of the things on the paper was to find someone with a second foreign language. Word got around pretty quickly that I'm from Germany, and everyone was lining up for me. 😄 I felt like I was handing out autographs. 😂 I didn't even get to fill out my own sheet because I was so busy signing everyone else's. In America, not many people learn a second foreign language. So it was even harder for me to find someone for this category. 😅
How am I otherwise? Since yesterday, my stomach hasn't been feeling well. I think I ate something wrong. So I don't even know if you can call it being sick. I'm still resting at the moment. But other than that, I'm feeling better today! I hope you're all doing well! ☺️
I'll let you know when something is happening again. So hopefully soon!
Have a great week! 😇
