Wildlife at its very best

Atejade: 30.06.2018

After arriving in Juneau, we drove to Eagle Beach via the Shrine of St. Therese (patron saint of Alaska) and the Jensen-Olsson Arboretum (beautiful garden). A picturesque bay. Bald Eagles were there, 5-6, but they didn't want to pose. They prefer to stare at us from the trees or gracefully ride the thermals up high to, as the locals say, 'socialize after the hunt in the morning'.

On Thursday, we visited the Mendenhall Glacier. You can see it from the ferry on the way from the sea. Since the day was still young, we went on an eagle hunt. An insider tip led us to a place right next to the highway where we could see a lot of eagles. Another tip was to go to the mouth of Fish Creek on Douglas Island. We saw eagles there too and successfully took pictures.

Friday, 6:30 a.m. Wake-up call, 'it's raining'. We want to go out to see whales on the ocean. After setting sail, we quickly crossed paths with three Orcas. But they didn't want to play and quickly disappeared. In the rain that was getting stronger, we were able to observe a group of humpback whales hunting.

Back at the campsite, suddenly Master Petz strolls casually right through our garden! On every hike, we almost wet our pants, on high alert, constantly holding the bear spray, and then something like this happens.

P.S.: Flat Iron Steak from the grill also works in the rain. :-D
