Days 17 and 18: Loooong and boring in Glommen and ADAC in Växjö

Atejade: 21.08.2024

After the stop at the cute café in Glommen was a flop. Because the café, restaurant, and bar were either non-existent or 'closed', and everything around the cute little parking spot at a riding school was so quiet, it was really boring... But it only cost 13 Euros for electricity, and we were the only ones there. We spent the evening with a REALLY LONG escape game, which was actually pretty cool, but sometimes we were just too clueless...

The next day, we wanted to give it another shot and head over to Kalmar and Öland. Visit the castle, find a campsite with a sauna, and treat ourselves well for the last days.

Anna discovered the Skepshult Outlet halfway through. For those who don't know: they make cast iron frying pans. Outrageously expensive. In the outlet for just over half price. We set off, strengthened with bread and new pans, on the 3.5-hour drive east.

After refueling near Växjö, the engine check light suddenly illuminates and says 'Check engine', so we pulled over, turned the car off and on... it’s still on. Called ADAC. Someone will come in the next 2 hours. Nobody told us that you get an SMS from Swedish 'SOS' in advance and you should transfer 300 euros first. So we waited a long time, and no one came.

After a lot of back and forth, we were driven to the nearest workshop by a tow truck 4 hours later, hopefully, they will have time for us tomorrow.

Now we are spending the night in a HUGE industrial area. The good thing is: there’s EVERY fast-food place in Sweden here. MaxBurgers, McDonald’s, KFC, Pizza Hut, ChopChop, Jureskogs, Mister York, Burger King, and also a thousand kebab, Asian, and other shops.

We got some food from ChopChop 'Asia Express' and pray that it is just a small issue with the car and that we can get away with little money spent, a missed trip to Öland, 2 wasted vacation days, and just a scare.
