Fischland-Darß-Zingst

Atejade: 05.10.2020

In autumn, you can observe cranes resting on their way south in the Salzhaff. We hadn't gone far when we spotted the first birds and stopped briefly for birdwatching.

On our way east, we passed Karls Erlebnisdorf. We spontaneously stopped to see what we had seen so much advertising for. We expected a small farm shop, but it turned out to be a huge market with everything from strawberry jam, wine, and chocolate to furnishings for the candy land. We skipped the play world for children, but still spent some time exploring the shops and gastronomy.

We continued to Ribnitz-Damgarten, also known as the "Amber City," as the precious stones are processed here.

We didn't go to the Amber Museum, but took a short walk through the town, although nothing spectacular happened.

Our journey took us further to Fischland-Darß-Zingst, a peninsula chain formed by three islands that are connected to the mainland.

In Ahrenshoop, we stopped at the beach for a small picnic at lunchtime. We sat in the dune sand and had a beautiful view of the sea.

We also had some visitors who watched us with great interest while we were eating - probably hoping to get something as well:

In Prerow on Darß, we stopped for a slightly longer hike to the Darßer Ort lighthouse, which took us through the Darßer Urwald, the core area of the Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft National Park.

Unfortunately, we didn't have time to visit the Natureum in and around the lighthouse, an outpost of the Stralsund Sea Museum, and continued our way along the beach.

We walked back through the dune landscape on a plank path.

There were quite a few hikers and cyclists along the way, but then people gathered along the roadside, many equipped with cameras and huge lenses.

A herd of deer had gathered in the Bodden landscape. In addition to numerous females, some deer roared, vying for the favor of the female sex and displaying their magnificent antlers.

We saw deer and some wild boars in the tall grass not far from our path.

Finally, our path led us through a marshy landscape back to the parking lot.

In the evening, we continued on to Greifswald, the starting point of our tour the next day. A colony of cranes flew over us on their way south.
