We continued towards Queenstown - the city of adrenaline rush - which we only briefly saw while passing through. I'm not really the adrenaline junky type, and Basti is saving his adventure for the North Island.
Nevertheless, we couldn't resist watching the brave (or rather insane) people as they plunged over 40m from a bridge, only attached to a rope by their feet.
We then visited another filming location from 'The Lord of the Rings' - The Argonath - the Pillars of the Kings, but without the pillars (just a beautiful gorge) (: .
Our journey took us to the gold miner's town, 'Arrowtown'. A small town with adorable houses and a lot of charm from times past. There was also a small open-air museum where the huts of the Chinese gold miners were reconstructed and the historical background was illuminated.
At midnight, we were treated to an incredibly beautiful starry sky with the Milky Way and star clusters (only visible on the southern hemisphere) at the beach, and Basti even saw a shooting star. The evening ended with a nice and relaxed beer invitation from 4 other backpackers from Germany.
Wishing you all a happy new year!!!
