The Vesterålen: Nupen Parking Lot, Harstad

Atejade: 18.06.2022

Stage 22: Narvik - Nupen Viewpoint (near Harstad): We really enjoyed the midnight sun yesterday, in fact, the warming rays lift our spirits even more. This morning we went up the mountain again (with a view of the elk) and then happily continued, aiming for the Lofoten Islands. We found a good parking spot right by the Andfjord (still on the Vesterålen Islands, the 'pendant' to the Lofoten). The view is unfortunately minimal due to the rain and fog... at least we cleaned the inside of the car and tested the self-made dry separating toilet - we are basically autonomous with solar power from the roof with extra battery, water tank, refrigerator, and toilet. What more could you want? Shortly before midnight, we wake up (it's completely dark in the car when we want it to be) from music - about 40 people gather in the parking lot to play or listen to a Midsummer concert. In raincoats and rubber boots, the colorful group bravely and happily plays their repertoire. A Norwegian woman tells me with wide eyes that it is by no means a rehearsal for the 'real' Midsummer festival (it sounded like it to me), but that it is THE festival - there is a small stand with drinks and a seemingly popular snack: a sausage with mayo, mustard, and ketchup, rolled up in a pancake...
