30.01.2018 - Arrival at Haderslev

Atejade: 08.02.2018

Tuesday, 30.01.2018 - the day of truth!

At 07:10 my plane took off from Vienna towards Copenhagen. The farewell at the airport was harder than expected, but I was also very excited about Denmark! The view from the plane was super beautiful and quickly cheered me up :-)

I landed in Copenhagen at 09:00 and had to wait for an hour before boarding a small regional jet with propellers. (Water, coffee cups and sugar had to be taken by each passenger separately - there was a shelf on the way to the plane where you could take something).
I was so nervous about the airplane and I didn't feel comfortable at all in this tight, small plane. (Tip: NEVER google the airplane beforehand - nervous breakdown preprogrammed!)
Despite major concerns and fear of the propeller plane, I boarded and landed safely in Billund, my final airport, just before 11:00 am.

Once I arrived in Billund, I immediately picked up my luggage and waited for my bus in the arrivals hall. Finally, at 11:50 am, I took bus number 43 towards Vejle and then switched to bus 900X towards Haderslev. (The bus drivers are all really nice and everyone here can speak English very well in general).

When I arrived in Haderlev (1:40 pm), my roommate Pia, a replacement buddy Laura (explained below!), and a future classmate of ours, Alicia, picked me up from the bus station and accompanied me to my accommodation.

At first glance, the accommodation didn't look very cozy. Very small (my room, not the house) and also old, although it seems that all apartments/houses look like this here. But by now I already feel very comfortable here :-) The house consists of two apartments. Pia and I live in one of them, and the homeowners live in the other. Our rooms are on the ground floor (the two left windows belong to us).

Pia and I share the bathroom, the kitchen, and a cozy living room. We both have our own room and a separate entrance, separate from the homeowners. In my room, there is a small bed, a desk including an office chair, a dresser, a small wardrobe, and another chair. On the windowsill, there were already two candles and a vase (first signs of 'hygge', the Danish way of life here).

After a few hours of setting up the room, getting to know my roommate, and taking a shower, Pia and I went to Lidl together (about 5 minutes away) and bought some groceries together.

Then, the homeowner (who is also one of our professors at the university) briefly visited us to get to know us and discuss a few things.

That's it for the first day :-)

* Replacement buddy: Our buddy Bettina was unfortunately in Sweden during the first week, so she couldn't pick us up from the train station. Another buddy then volunteered to show us around the city :-)
