In my guidebook it is written that basically every resident of Twizel took part in Lord of the Rings: In the Battle of the Pellenor Fields. However, that was 20 years ago and the village will have continued to mix. Nevertheless, I definitely wanted to talk to the “people on the street” about it. Unfortunately I totally forgot about it and I'm a little annoyed about it 🤦🏼♂️. Wipe your mouth and move on!
On the way to Queenstown we passed Lake Ohau. We made a quick stop to take a look at it. Since no one else was there and we had peace and quiet, we wanted to unwind for a while. But the wind was just too strong and it was less pleasant than hoped. In that respect, things moved on quite quickly.
On the further route we drove alongside the Clutha River and Kawarau River. I'm not entirely sure, but I suspect we saw the setting of the "Pillars of the King." The Lord of the Rings fans among us know exactly what is meant 😁. According to the guidebook, this was somewhere near the Chard farm, so it would fit.
When we arrived in Queenstown, we immediately had to digest some unpleasant news: the drinking water here was “contaminated” a few weeks ago. It is usually touted as very, very clean water. But the process of treating drinking water must have introduced bacteria that are not so easy to get rid of. For all of us this means: only use bottled water or boiling water. 🤷🏼♂️ There was also further information in the holiday apartment about how to behave during an earthquake. Okay 😅.
At the golden end of the day we enjoyed a beautiful view over Queenstown from a lookout 🤗.
Good night 😴.
