Art festival Chale Wote

Atejade: 24.08.2019

Sooo before I met with Naa I was at a Cafe yesterday. It was the same Cafe I used to go to when I stayed with Ajit (my first Couchsurfing host) and since it's close to Ajits place, I decided to give him a call to talk a bit.

He told me to come to his office and so I did, then he came by car my way and picked me up. He was going to buy a dog and I was part of it - sadly forgot to take a picture of him. When I fly to Argentina I will most likely stay with him again and will show you his cute pupper. He is 4 months old.

Then I took an overly complicated route with the Tro-tro to Naas place. I was kind of annoyed but hey I'm still new in the city.

(Picture will come later)

This is her - you should remember her from the Wli waterfalls. She cooked for us, yam roots with eggplant sauce and tilapia (that's a local fish, really delicious). The food was really good and spicy as always but I start to like it that hot.

Oh and we added some avocado. The tilapia is in the sauce so you can't see it.
We went afterwards to some bar and had a beer. Like usually the music is so loud that you have trouble understanding each other.
The next day we went together with Harold, an incredibly cool guy, to the festival.
This is Harold, Naa and me.

On the festival were mainly food stores and this spray paint art which looks like its not yet finished to 100% but is already mind blowing. This is all completely new, there is still the smell of fresh spray paint in the air.
It's traditional motivs, put in a modern context. I did not find out what the messages were but maybe I'll get to that today 👍

Here the artist is still working, some kids giving him paint.
Look, I'm an angel!

Later at the same spot there was live boxing. The boxers were really young but already trained a bit, so they knew what they were doing.

Great view from a spot Harold recommended but again..
The waste is really an issue here. If I stop writing about it at some point it's probably because I'm too fed up..
And I found this beautiful Volkwagen 😂
Then I went to pick up Magalie, and the two of us checked some traditional dance out. That was not part of the festival, the brother of a Foster (another couchsurfer, the careful and regular readers of you might remember him) had training for this dance and we could watch as the only visitors - this is the reason why I love couchsurfing so much. Real encounters with locals and their culture! Here is again a link to the video:

This was super cool and a welcome distraction from the Accra which is usually stressfull and crowded.

For the night we went to two different bars. Turns out the second one was one of the fanciest in town and my friends had a 10 minute discussion with the bumper for me to be allowed in the bar/club because I wore jeans shorts 🤣 My rugged bag or my casual blue hoodie was not the issue, no it was a jeans shorts. Anyway, we entered eventually but were tired around 12 o clock and left to Naas home.
It was a nice place but for the top notch of the clubs not soo special.

Yeah so far so good, today more festival, I hope I can get some bodypaint 🤩

A friend made some cool videos of the festival, I'm in there aswell 🤣 you find them with these links:
