Day 128 Monkey Mia

Early start for a big wildlife day. Stuart had to stay at home because he wanted to swim away with the dolphins, so we drove up to Monkey Mia without him. Monkey Mia is known for dolphins swimming very close to the beach to hunt but also in the morning to be fed. Nowadays this feeding is only allowed by rangers, so that the dolphins get at feeding time only 300g of fish and there are maximal 3 feedings per day, meaning the dolphins still have to go hunting for their food to get the 8-10kg per day they need. Dolphin experience with some explanations on the dolphins, e.g. name and age starts as soon as dolphins turn up at the beach. In the water are only volunteers and the rangers allowed while everyone can watch the dolphins from the shoreline. Great time to see the dolphins in just 1-2 meter distance from you, swimming around, looking at you, getting fed...

After seeing dolphins so close, it is time for spotting more wildlife on a dugong wildlife cruise. On the cruise we saw turtles, dugongs in a distance and more dolphins having their playful part of the day cruising in front of the boat...

After all this exciting experiences it is time for a snack before hitting the beach, walking along the shoreline, looking at all the different shells and watching more dolphins in a distance.
