Day 19) Sons of liberty

I started the day with a visit to the Athens Railway Museum. However, the museum consists only of a depot and a small lobby. In addition to some small devices and old photos, there are still 3 old locomotives, 2 old carriages (smoking carriage of the Ottoman Emperor and a carriage of the Greek Queen; both from the late 19th century) and an old tram on display. You can go through it in just 20 minutes.

After that, I visited the Greek National Park. The park offers many palm trees, a turtle pond, a petting zoo, and a café. However, it didn't really convince me, as it was quite small.

The next destination was the Temple of Zeus. Like the Acropolis, this landmark was also really beautiful. You can really feel the breath of history when walking around the columns. However, it's also just a few columns that you can quickly walk around.

The Greeks are very proud of their famous poets, philosophers, and mathematicians. Their quotes and theories hang everywhere here. I especially like the thesis that we are all sons of freedom and that our goal must be to be free. However, we are also free to determine what freedom means to us as individuals.

Actually, I wanted to find out how to get to Patras tomorrow, where I will take the ferry to Italy. When I arrived at the train station, I was almost shocked. It was empty and closed, only an armed (!) security guard was patrolling. The information signs at the entrance were all in Greek, but I recognized that the railway staff is on strike until Tuesday. A taxi driver wants to convince me that there are also no buses running and that I would have to take a taxi for 300 euros. Fortunately, I am told in the evening that only the railway company is on strike and the buses are indeed running. Unfortunately, the stereotype of the constantly striking Greeks has still been confirmed.
