We've been through hell the last three months. A planned short visit to Germany turned into 3 months. Kilian's cancer was back and the operation came faster than we could digest the diagnosis. Everything went well, but the planned chemotherapy gave us sleepless nights. We weighed things up again and again, discussed them and slept on them. Three weeks later he was already in the first of two planned cycles in the Stuttgart hospital. Tolerated well at first, it knocked him down a week later with sepsis. A blood transfusion was necessary, doubts about the treatment arose and we decided to stop it. The oncologist gave us his blessing and so we are now in the process of picking him up again, packing up the truck and heading out into the wide world again. The world is calling and we are following... especially now!
My mother and her husband Fritz were a great source of support during this terrible time. We were able to park with them (we lived in the truck the whole time), eat with them, do laundry, bathe and do anything else our hearts desired. They petted the dogs, walked me when I was in the hospital and were always there when we needed them. Comforting words and offers of help included. It's time to say thank you. Thank you Mom and Fritz for your help over the last few weeks and months!! Thank you for everything. It was good to know that we were not alone. What would we have done without you?
In the next few days we will be leaving Germany again for an indefinite period of time and we are full of enthusiasm for travel and anticipation of what awaits us. We will celebrate my birthday here and say goodbye to friends and family.
Once again we say byby Germany...byby family....byby friends....we'll be off then :)
