On 09/15/17 the long-awaited departure finally arrives.
Unfortunately, there is still a lot to do before that. Our Maxi (car) is still being revised, we are busy shopping (camping gear, groceries), and we have completed our Australian tax return (tax year always ends on 06/30).
Our planned route starts in Darwin and ends in Darwin if everything goes well. If the rainy season arrives earlier than expected, we will drive to Sydney. The first stop will be at Kakadu National Park (largest national park in Australia), where we plan to stay for 4-6 days. Then we will continue through two more national parks to Kunnunurra, which is approximately 1100 km away. This is where we will finally enter a different state, Western Australia, where we will spend most of the road trip.
In Kunnunurra, we will need to do some shopping again, and then we will head to Gibb River Road. This road is considered one of the most beautiful and notorious roads in the world. Here is a link from YouTube. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=NKozlnoJS_o
Once we have survived the Gibb River Road adventure, we will continue along the coast to the west and then south. In Port Augusta (South Australia), we hope to be able to drive back to Darwin through the center. Of course, with a stopover at Uluru/Ayers Rock.
In Darwin, we plan to sell our car and then fly to Melbourne. In February, we need to be in Sydney for our return flight.
We will decide on all the exact dates/locations on site. We now have approximately 150 days. It will be approximately 15,000 km of driving in total (including departure from the road).
