Saturday 06:15, alarm clock rings.
Weather wasn't great yesterday for today. So Roger is already wearing long underwear with thick socks.
Quick breakfast and then off to the Golden Circle!
And it was beautiful. No clouds, blue sky, and sunshine the whole tour! (thanks to the long underwear...).
We took well-marked and well-maintained paths. We stopped several times for photos, whether of the scenery or the animals.
The first real stop was the Geysir. And it's actually called that. But it only erupts every few hours, what's more interesting is the Strokkur next to it.
It erupts every few minutes, sometimes higher, sometimes lower.
Very interesting stuff, there's also an area with other boiling holes and small streams with water over 80 degrees Celsius.
And it smells a bit like rotten eggs.
Next stop was the Gullfoss waterfall.
Very impressive as it plunges into the depths over 2 stages. Snow-capped mountains in the background, blue sky, and crystal clear water, perfect!
The Kerio crater would have been another worthwile stop (by the way, the only one that cost about 5 bucks to enter).
The whole island is actually a crater landscape with rocks lying around everywhere. The Kerio is a rather small but very beautifully shaped crater that you can still recognize.
And slowly it's time to head back. We quickly bought lunch and ate it at one of the countless beautiful picnic spots.
Before we got on the ship, we invested the last Icelandic crown in souvenirs.
On the ship heading back, tired but happy. And tonight we still have the Champions League Final!
Tomorrow is another sea day to arrive in Scotland properly.
