New Plymouth

Atejade: 31.10.2024

Hello my dear,

I hope everything is going well with you and that you are looking forward to the upcoming winter. ;) Here, summer is gradually arriving, and the sun is getting stronger and fiercer. A few months ago (oh dear, I really need to take some writing days here) when I was in New Plymouth, it was still quite chilly, so I was walking around in the evenings with a scarf on.

Overall, I spent a full 2 days there and saw a lot, from the beach to a small city tour. As the first stop for this post and almost the last stop of that day, I visited Back Beach. A wonderful beach where particularly the locals were surfing that day. I preferred to enjoy a solo walk through the sand and letting the day wind down beautifully.

Besides surfers, there were also some locals out with their dogs, and the paw prints in the sand were just super cute. Additionally, I had a great view of Paritutu Rock from the beach.

After enjoying the view, I thought that a visit to this little mountain would certainly be a good idea, so I drove 5 minutes toward the city and dared the ascent. This hike was quite demanding, and I didn't expect that I would actually have to climb a bit to reach the summit. But I can tell you, it was so much fun, and I really enjoyed scrambling a bit among the rocks. The view was definitely worth it.

After the high hike, I went to the campsite and enjoyed the sunset there. And at night, I witnessed a real spectacle in the sky—a complete ring around the moon.

The next day, I headed into the city and admired the wonderful street art, ventured into the street food market, and opted for a really delicious burger. It was also really nice to just stroll around New Plymouth. Especially since I could walk from the campsite to the city, and the path I took was right along the sea.

As a rare exception, I ventured out of the 'house' aka campsite without breakfast and searched for a nice café and a delicious croissant that I found on Instagram, and holy moly, this croissant truly deserves the recommendation. It was the tastiest croissant I have had on my journey so far, and it was also very peaceful in front of the café, where I could admire the street art in peace. And so I could show you a photo, I had to order a second croissant because I ate the first one so quickly that I had no time for a photo.

Delicious food, a delicious croissant, sunshine, the sea, strolling around, and also a really nice conversation with a shop owner - a truly successful and wonderful day. The shop owner also gave me a few tips for another attraction, which I immediately used and drove that same day to the Elephant Rocks and the Three Sisters. Since this spot definitely deserves its own post, I will tell you more about it in the next post, and to conclude, I will show you my favorite street art project from New Plymouth.
