We spent Friday morning at the local tuk-tuk garage to check and fix some minor issues with our tuk-tuk. The garage was super professional and affordable.
During a delicious lunch, we discussed our plans for the next few days. After that, we got train tickets for the journey from Nanu Oya (Nuwara Eliya) to Ella. We will be traveling in the third class, fortunately with seat reservations. In the third class, the doors and windows will be open so that we can take in as much of the scenery as possible (the first class is air-conditioned, but we prefer fresh air and traveler adventures).
Afterwards, we visited the famous Tooth Temple (so named because it is said to house the left canine tooth of Buddha). Tommy had to borrow a long skirt for this, as in the temple neither knees nor shoulders can be exposed (photos of that will follow). The temple was large and very beautiful, with intricately detailed decorations made of natural materials without kitsch. The evening ceremony with drums, flute, and the presentation of the magnificent golden hood of the relic was super interesting (and loud!).
In the evening, we sat on the balcony for a while after dinner, enjoying the pleasant temperatures and drinking local beer that our host had specially ordered for us.
