BBQ in Cave City, Kentucky - Bucky Bee's BBQ

Atejade: 17.03.2017

After already 2 days without ribs and the like, I was already experiencing slight withdrawal symptoms, so at the end of the day we headed to Bucky Bee's BBQ, not far from our motel.

The ambiance was fine and the waitress was friendly. On the table, we had a choice between two BBQ sauces: hot and mild. Unfortunately, neither ingredients nor flavor descriptions were labeled. Drinks are refilled for free upon request.

Steffi ordered a baked potato with cheddar and pulled pork. I decided to go for a combo platter of ribs, brisket, shoulder, and pulled pork, with 2 sides of my choice - onion rings and coleslaw, including cornbread.

There was nothing to complain about the portion sizes. The food was served very quickly, as it had been in all the other restaurants we've been to so far.

Steffi was rightfully very satisfied with her choice. I, on the other hand, had some points of criticism. The brisket was too dry and partially burnt. There was very little meat on the ribs. They were also dry and unfortunately very bland in taste. The shoulder was a bit tough, whereas the pulled pork was very tasty. The sauces also didn't really impress. As for the sides, the onion rings were really good. The coleslaw was very finely chopped and felt heavy in the stomach. The cornbread, despite the margarine, was very dry and tasted very plain.

Regarding BBQ, the waitress could only tell me that the 2 sauces, which can also be purchased on site for $5 per bottle, are homemade and that (presumably) cherry is smoked.

Without having bought a bottle of sauce, we left the restaurant again.

Conclusion: Good portions at a very good price, but unfortunately the taste has been by far the weakest in the USA so far...
