Day 18: Sunday 19.08.2018 Renvyle - Killadoon

Atejade: 19.08.2018

Today we started from the campsite. Fortunately, the rain stopped and the sun even came out briefly. On the way, we visited Kylemore Abbey. However, we didn't go inside because the entrance fee was too expensive. We continued our way north and passed by the Aasleagh Falls. These waterfalls are crossed by the salmon when they are fully grown (after about 3 years) and swim to Norway. However, at the end of their lives, they return here. And with their children, the cycle begins again. We also saw peat deposits from the Connemara region. This is where the only peated whiskey in Ireland comes from. It has the peaty taste notes of a Scottish whiskey combined with the Irish lightness thanks to triple distillation. There we met a coach from Landkreis WN (among others from Schwäbisch Hall, Mundelsheim, and Fornsbach). We exchanged useful information with the bus driver about the future route. Since the tour group was heading south and we were heading north. Then we left County Connemara for County Mayo. On our further journey, we encountered many free-roaming sheep and it is clear that this is not a tourist area. Tonight we sleep in the VW bus. We found a nice spot right by the sea with flushing Toilets. Since this afternoon, it has started to drizzle again.

Mileage: 3,380km
