Paradise - Perhentian Island

Atejade: 05.07.2017

The next day we continued towards Perhentian Island, where we had chosen a dive school to get our Open Water diving license. Our bus driver seemed to enjoy taking the steep curves with a lot of momentum, so we were relieved when the road straightened out again. The landscape we passed on our journey was beautiful, and so the travel time flew by quickly. We flew over the waves in a small, packed boat and arrived in paradise. We were like little children, delighted by the sight of the clear, blue water and the whole island. Our dive school was on the smaller Perhentian Island at Long Beach, and it only took a 10-minute walk to get to the other side of the island. We spent the day at the beach and did some snorkeling.

The next day, our diving course began. We spent the morning watching "short" theory videos, but the prospect of going diving in the afternoon made it all worth it. Our dive instructor Rob showed us everything, and off we went into the sea.

We were only in water about 1.70 meters deep and had to get used to breathing underwater and doing some exercises. After a few initial difficulties, I managed to do it and relied on the tank.

We spent the next day learning more theory and went on 2 dives. The underwater world was so beautiful - we saw scorpionfish, small sharks, starfish, rainbow fish, coral reefs, all sorts of big and small fish, and turtles. My highlight was when a sea turtle came so close to me and tried to nibble on my fin. Unfortunately, time flew by too quickly on the island.

After a total of 4 days and 5 dives, we passed our course and can now do various fun dives.

Arriving back on the mainland, with the help of very friendly locals, I got my lost glasses back from the bus, and a very kind older man drove us to the bus terminal.

The night bus journey went quickly and we arrived in Kuala Lumpur. We went to the airport and had to pass the time until our flight to Borneo.
