Today towards the end of my trip was an absolute highlight: I went on a snorkeling tour to the Great Barrier Reef...
We left early in the morning because I had to be in Port Douglas by half past 7. They told me at check-in that it would be quite windy and therefore rather uncomfortable. They advised me to take something for seasickness! Well, I thought that I'm not that sensitive to it and ignored the advice.
That went well for quite a while, but the waves were so massive that even I didn't feel well anymore. Most people were already sitting outside with the vomit bag in hand... for me, it went quite okay. Only lunch was both free and in vain because I could hardly eat anything... 😬
We visited three different spots on the edge of the reef, because it is better preserved there compared to the coastal areas.
And what can I say, it was really gigantic! I've never been snorkeling before, but even experienced divers were thrilled. The many colorful fish between a few centimeters and 1.5 meters, swimming back and forth among the corals, and as a highlight, a shark in the distance! Really insane!
And the return journey was without problems for most people.
Now I'm back in Cairns and noticed that I have a sunburn, even though I wore a Lycra suit in the water to protect myself from box jellyfish. I must have stood too long in the sun for drying.
Well, I hope it's not that bad!
Now I'm going to take a nap and then I guess I'll have to eat something! I recommend myself...
P.s.: of course, I heard that the AEV won! Totally crazy, especially after more than 100 minutes! Amazing! So let's go, I want to hear the CFS roar to Shanghai on Wednesday!
