Week 23 - Goodbye Sardinia & Hello Tuscany

פֿאַרעפֿנטלעכט: 24.04.2022

On Monday, Julian and I drove together with Hilde and Peter to a small private pitch at the edge of the mountains. We enjoyed the peace and good weather. Of course, a hike was a must :-) Afterwards, we followed Hilde and Peter to a campsite by the sea. More friends of Hilde and Peter arrived on Wednesday. Julian and I went snorkeling in the afternoon and we had a barbecue together in the evening. On Friday, we left Sardinia. I was there for a total of 6 weeks and I already felt a bit sad to leave the beautiful beaches and bays. To pass the time until the night ferry, we drove to Golfo Aranci and went for a walk there. It was a good pastime :-) It got exciting on the ferry. We drove on and waited to be allowed to drive the ramp down into the belly of the ship. The motorhomes in front of us were waved through, but we were stopped. We were signaled to turn around and drive backwards down the ramp. At first, I thought it was a bad joke. The ramp is just mega steep and not much wider than the motorhome. But it wasn't a joke, so I turned around and slowly drove down the ramp. Fortunately, there are always enough staff on the ferries to guide and support us so that we don't hit anything in the cramped space. After a restful night, we arrived in Livorno on Saturday morning. We went directly to Pisa to visit the landmark of the city. Even though it was only late morning, there were a lot of people on Piazza del Duomo. We couldn't resist taking the typical tourist picture. The square itself is really beautiful, as the cathedral and the baptistery are also worth seeing. We then went up on the city walls and walked back to the parking lot along the river. Since we had parked at Lidl, we drove out of the city to the village of Montopoli for the night. Due to the rain, we could only go for a walk there and on Sunday we continued to Castelado. We will explore it tomorrow. Tomorrow we will drive to a winery, where we have booked a night at an agriturismo. We will have a tour, wine tasting, dinner, and a pitch. We don't have any other plans, we will go with the flow :-)
