18th Day - 28th February 2022

פֿאַרעפֿנטלעכט: 01.03.2022

The night was a bit difficult. I caught a cold and my nose is often blocked. Nasal spray helps, but I have to use it 3-4 times during the night. So, I wake up often. And in the morning, I feel a bit tired despite the great room. The route today is also not particularly interesting. It takes me from Fort Worth to Oklahoma City, connecting two different road trips.

I regret taking the detour to Dallas a bit. There is a lot of traffic, it's not fun, and Dallas is not really a must-visit city. The hour-long detour is somewhat unnecessary. Well, now I can say that I've seen it.

My first stop is Ray Roberts Lake State Park, which is just under three-quarters of an hour away from Dallas. And it's nice to see how peaceful everything is here. Many campers settle in one of the many pitches but still get lost in the huge area. The lake is completely calm. There are only a few boats on it. Maybe it's too early in the year.

The rest of the journey is characterized by huge fields and cattle pastures. But the landscape is flat. There are no hills, and even the road mostly goes straight. I have been spoiled too much in the past few days. When I come to a bison viewpoint, the essential is missing. No bison to be seen. The nearby bear falls are also not particularly spectacular, and the term "Little Niagara" is quite ambitious. Actually, I wanted to have a BBQ restaurant, but I have no appetite at all. So, I postpone it for later. I will be back in Texas anyway. I have now landed in Oklahoma. But it really only differs in name. The landscape is the same.

Unlike the urban area of Fort Worth Dallas, it is quieter here. The capital, Oklahoma City, also has significantly fewer inhabitants than the two adjoining cities combined. And so, I drive almost traffic-free to my hotel, which is near the airport. I was attracted by the incredibly cheap price for what it offers. And I am about to be pleasantly surprised.

When I enter, I experience a plant world in a huge courtyard. I have never seen anything like it before. Without exaggeration, my room can be called a suite. A huge room with enough space for dancing, as the saying goes. For this rather uneventful day, a pleasant surprise. I get some food from the Mexican restaurant and enjoy it at my own table in my room. My cold seems to have improved somewhat thanks to the medication. In any case, I don't feel as weak anymore. And I'm also happy about the prospect of breakfast tomorrow. This morning, I only had coffee here. It's supposed to be really well-cooked here. And the reviews highly praise it.

Tomorrow will be a lot more interesting. I won't be driving as much, but instead, I'll be on a very historic road. Those who know will now know what I'm talking about.

Oklahoma City looks so, so pretty, You'll see Amarillo, Gallup, New Mexico, Flagstaff, Arizona, don't forget Wynonna, Kingman, Barstow, San Bernardino

You get hip to this kind of tip
And go take that California trip
Get your kicks on Route 66
