Our day today consisted mostly of one thing: driving! And we spent a lot of time doing that.
After our tour through Antelope Canyon yesterday, we headed to Flagstaff, which was 2.5 hours away.
For American standards, 2.5 hours is nothing, and it made us realize how far apart our stages are, even though it doesn't look like it on the map.
But Flagstaff was just a stopover for us, and we spent one night there before heading straight to the Grand Canyon the next morning. After another 1.5 hours of driving, we finally reached the most famous of all national parks.
A quick look at the park map and voila! we were already at the first viewpoint, the Mather Point.
From here, we had a great view of the entire South Rim of the Grand Canyon. However, what we had read in many forums before our trip to the USA has now come true: in the last week, we have seen so many natural wonders, and every time we thought it couldn't get any better, another highlight came along and surprised us once again.
So now the Grand Canyon didn't look so "grand" anymore. It was a great view, and the canyon is something special, but I think it's time for a little city buzz ;)
We went to a second viewpoint, where we could take some really great pictures, and after about 3 hours, we set off for the faaaaaaaraway Califoooooorniaaaaaa.
In Seligman, we left the never-ending highway and continued our journey on the famous Historic Route 66. If you have the opportunity to drive on the mother of all roads, you should definitely do it.
After a few souvenir shops along the road, we stopped "briefly" at the symbol of Route 66 and took some pictures for the family album. But we were not the only ones, because all of a sudden, the little sign, which by the way was in the middle of the road, turned into an "Japanese tourist mile". We couldn't help but take a few pictures with them, because they just joined us :D
Afterwards, we continued our journey and finally reached Kingman, where we drove on the highway again after a short stop at Mc Donald's, and after another 3.5 hours, we finally arrived in Twentynine Palms, California. But before we could go to bed, we had to find one first. Luckily, we got the last and also the most expensive room in one of the motels and could finally relax after a tiring day in the car.
But we won't have much time to relax because we're already moving on tomorrow and the distances unfortunately won't get any shorter!!
But that's a true road trip :)
