After this day we got a different view of all Vietnamese people over 49.

פֿאַרעפֿנטלעכט: 15.01.2024

On our last day in Saigon we visited the award-winning “War Renement Museum”. With many shocking photos, it shows the 17 years in which the USA fought against Vietnam and the countless war crimes the United States of America committed in Vietnam. 3 million Vietnamese, including 2 million civilians, were killed. 2 million people injured. Hundreds of thousands cruelly tortured in prisons. Including young people. A feeling of disbelief at the incredible suffering and inhuman cruelty to which the Vietnamese were subjected from 1955 to 1975 spread. How could such a senseless war last over 17 years?

After this visit to the museum, we see the population who experienced the war (i.e. everyone over 49 years old) with different eyes. We have great respect for them. They must have probably lived in fear and terror for several years.

The war still leaves its mark on the population today. Because the US military has also used chemical weapons, an increasing number of children are being born with disabilities or malformations. Only after the 4th generation is there no longer any risk of inheritance. We found out about this from our tour guide. She then showed us the 6 toes on her foot.

We read in our travel guide that Vietnam has a bright future as a travel destination. That's our pleasure. Vietnam should finally be associated with its beautiful nature, delicious food and friendly people.
