Bad weather situation

פֿאַרעפֿנטלעכט: 29.08.2023

August 28, 23 Zollnersee Hut > Valentins Alm

That would have been the next stage but the Genoa low made it impossible to continue the journey. Heavy rain with thunderstorms is not advisable on the steep mountain paths. So the nine of us decided to go down into the valley to Kötschach-Mauthen. The hut warden organized a minibus and everyone arrived safely down here in the valley. I moved into the Hotel Engel and took another break. As usual during a break, washing clothes etc. is required. This time I sent my tent and pad home so I have less to worry about in the future. I also ate well and slept enough.

Walking, writing blogs, cutting hair - these are my activities here. Now it's time to get back to work so that we can continue to the Valentinsalm tomorrow.

August 30, 23 Kötschach- Mauthen > Valentinalm

Finally it's moving on. As the weather brightened, I left Kötschach towards Valentinalm. Before the climb began, I met a man who spontaneously asked me where I wanted to go, where I came from and how long I had been traveling for. A nice conversation ensued. His name is Lois and he was a mountain guide and also spent a lot of time in Switzerland. He listed many mountains and places where he had been with his guests. At the end he gave me half a kilo of home-made honey. “You can really use this on your tour,” he said to me. Now I'm free of the tent, but now I'm carrying honey with me! The people are so welcoming here! The Roman path leads through the forest, not so steeply, up to the Pöckenpass past a cemetery with fallen heroes from the First World War. Here I am in the middle of an area steeped in history. Luckily the rain didn't come back in torrents on the way! Now dry again on the Valentinalm.
