Mâcon צו ליאָן, די מערסט שיין טייל פון די סאַון

פֿאַרעפֿנטלעכט: 29.05.2023

Slopes on the left bank slowly rise, initially in the distance, but gradually getting closer to the river. Just before Trévoux, the Saône river starts to twist and wind, as if it knows it will soon join the mighty Rhône. The buildings along the river become closer together. Today, on Whit Monday, the French are still enjoying their day off. With the beautiful weather, they all gather at the restaurants along the river. With each kilometer, the city draws near.

At Île Barbe, the river streams on both sides of the island. Both banks are steep, partially built upon. It is at this exact spot where we encounter the first cruise ship. We make way for it, allowing it to navigate the tight curve with its length. After passing Île Barbe, the river flows through the city between partially high walls. Even though there is little space left between the riverbank and the cliffs, it is enough for a road and a row of magnificent, some of which are slightly aged, houses.

Thus, the Saône river winds its way towards its destination over the next kilometers.

A few kilometers before it merges into the Rhône, we enter our planned port, La Confluence.
