In the morning we reach Havøsund, a small town in the Norwegian municipality of Måsøy in the province of Finnmark. The town is the administrative centre of Måsøy and has 947 inhabitants. We continue through beautiful winter landscapes towards Honningsvåg, the highlight of the trip, from there we go to the North Cape. Since the weather is not sunny and we all already know the North Cape, we explore the village of Honningsvåg.
Fishing continued to grow in the 1960s, but industrial processing of fish became increasingly important and more and more people were involved in processing and fewer and fewer in catching. In 1962 the Norfi factory was built, employing up to 170 people. It produced fish meal and oil in two plants. In addition to capelin, herring and pollock were also processed there. However, the processing of herring ended in 1969. From 1965 to 1985, large quantities of winter and summer capelin were caught and half a million hectolitres of fish oil were produced over many years. Then, however, an economic downturn set in, marked in particular by a crisis in the fishing industry.
In 1991, the now bankrupt Frionar Polar company, formerly Finotro, was taken over by Stofi. Parts of the buildings were demolished. A new office of the Norwegian Coastal Administration was established. The fishing school was expanded and the Klubbskærmolo pier was built. After improvements to the tourist infrastructure at the North Cape, the number of tourists increased significantly. The increasing cruise tourism to the North Cape led to Honningsvåg becoming an important port for cruise ships. After lunch we leave Honningsvår in the direction of Kjøllefjord, Mehamn, Berlevag Batsford, Vardø
