03.01.2019 - Quiver Tree Forest and Giants Playground

פֿאַרעפֿנטלעכט: 03.01.2019

Today was the longest stage of our journey. 500 km to Keetmanhoop and mostly straight. Forever straight ahead, with nothing but the landscape on both sides. The drive took about 6 hours, and along the way we visited the Hardap Dam, which supplies water to the south of Namibia. The whole thing at 38 degrees, which we both found pleasant and not too hot, just right.

After checking in at the hotel run by a very nice South African couple, we visited the Quiver Tree Forest, where there are trees up to 400 years old, including a predator feeding. It's a good thing we arrived 10 minutes later, as the cheetahs were already strutting away, having had their fill, only 2 meters away from us.

To end the day, a short walk in the Giants Playground, a Namibian rock sea, so to speak, with dinner at the Schützenhaus from 1907, with bratwurst and kasseler... Very delicious...
