Tag 31 and 32 - Journey back home

Today we headed towards home. But first, we did a little shopping and then drove without (major) stops on the roads of France with the aim of Switzerland. After four hours of driving, we went through a hilly landscape covered with forests. Jessi suggested that we look for a place to stay overnight there, so we took the next exit and followed the winding roads up a forest hill. At some point, we took a hidden road, probably used by foresters, and parked our car somewhat hidden behind the trees. When we got out, the unmistakable scent of the forest immediately filled our noses. "Hmm, I didn't realize how much I missed the forest," I said to Jessica, who agreed. "Yes, I missed it too," she replied. The night was, to say the least, not very good. Neither of us slept through the night, we kept waking up and didn't find any rest. It was almost typical that we had to sleep in a forest at the end and then couldn't get a wink of sleep, out of fear of the forest.

In the morning we had to get up early because we had to return our car at ten o'clock. So our last trip with the Peugeot started. It was very exhausting as there was almost constant traffic jam all the way. There was also a somewhat melancholic mood as both of us were aware that our road trip was coming to an end. Nevertheless, we had to laugh a lot as we thought back on everything we had experienced. So we arrived a bit exhausted at the car rental agency. Everything went smoothly there.

And so our month full of adventures, funny moments, many new impressions, and long conversations ends. It's indescribable how much we have seen and experienced in these weeks. There are so many things we have learned through our spontaneous and independent travel. Probably the most important thing we can take away is that you should never stand still. If we thought at one place that it might be our newly found paradise, the next place was twice as beautiful. With each move, we found something new that we liked even better. Another realization of this month is that Led Zeppelin is an incredibly great band.

So I conclude my last entry in this blog and I am happy if someone could smile about it and if the reports might have pleased them so much that he or she also feels like going on spontaneous trips through Europe.
