Direction North

פֿאַרעפֿנטלעכט: 12.11.2024

After 2 weeks, I'm finally hitting the road today. I want to take a small circuit before reinforcements from back home arrive on Saturday. Off we go heading north, where Hanmer Springs with its thermal springs lies just 2 hours inland. After doing some final shopping in Christchurch, I drive along the eastern side of the island on SH1 heading north. This route is the main connection to Nelson, from where one can take the ferry to Wellington on the North Island. The Pacific peeks through the trees now and then, and eventually, I change my mind, stay by the sea, and head to Gore Bay. It's a really sleepy place with a few houses, and the simple campsite is clean and slightly elevated right by the sea, with no mobile reception and no Wi-Fi at the site. I walk along the beach to a cliff; the seals don't seem to mind as long as I stay a few meters away. In the evening, I prepare a salad in the cabin kitchen and enjoy the clear view of the sea from my bed.
