Start Alpe-Adria Cycle Path to Salzburg: although we would have liked to stay in this beautiful city for a few more days. The weather forecast didn't look promising, but we moved significantly over budget all day. Perfect weather, partly cloudy, around 25 degrees. The route is great and very diverse, although there are some tough climbs after Hallein. In Hallein, there is no longer any evidence of the storm damage. However, there is still some debris on the roadside in some places in the surrounding area. The 12 km without a bike path and 5 km without a bike lane on the highway were rather challenging, as the traffic was very intense contrary to the route description. At the end of this section, you are rewarded with spectacular views of Hohenwerfen Castle, the filming location of the 1968 spy thriller "Where Eagles Dare". Unfortunately, there was no sign of Richard Burton or Clint Eastwood. However, a black kitten paid us a visit, which of course counts as the highlight of this first day. This, along with a full hour in the hotel pool in bright sunshine before the gloomy prophecy of the weather forecasters finally came true and the heavens opened over the idyllic St. Johann im Pongau. Tomorrow we will continue uphill and the weather forecast is not very pleasant, but maybe that's a good omen again?
