We left the campsite in Brisbane early under gray clouds and after a good hour's drive we reached “Surfers Paradise” on the Gold Coast. Contrary to what the name suggests, you can't really surf well here.
However, the skyline on the promenade and the kilometer-long beach are impressive, which is why many tourists come here.
The sun was now shining brightly again and we strolled along the beach and into various shops.
To swim we went to a beach that was significantly less crowded but at least as beautiful.
In the early afternoon we chugged an hour further to Byron Bay and checked into the campsite there. About a minute's walk from the parking space to the beach, ideal.
Byron Bay is a popular stop for many travelers to Australia as surfing is possible here in ideal conditions.
We then spent the rest of the day chilling, swimming, watching surfers and having a BBQ in the evening.
