17th day of travel

פֿאַרעפֿנטלעכט: 09.06.2019

Although it rained again at night, we were able to leave our spot without any problems today. Kristiansund consists of three islands, Kirkelandet, Nordlandet, and Innlandet. So we headed to Kirkelandet where we spent the night. Since there wasn't much to see here except for the harbor, we continued to Innlandet. The oldest part of the city promised an old customs house and old warehouses. Unfortunately, the harbor area was a construction site. So we went on to Nordlandet, the largest of the three islands, where the Nordlandet Church is located on its western tip. Since today is Sunday, there was a church service going on of course. So off we went to the next adventure! The Atlantic Road - the sensational Atlantic Highway. Eight partly massive bridges connect the offshore archipelago islands with each other. The largest and highest bridge leads over the famous and infamous Hustad Bay where numerous wrecks lie. The Atlantic Road was inaugurated on July 7th, 1989, and voted Norway's Construction of the Century in 2005. The drive was very impressive but also quickly over. We continued on RV64 until just before Bemsnes, where it branches off to the Kvernes Stave Church. A baptism was taking place in the church next door and some women were wearing their Sunday traditional costume. Our next destination was Molde, the city of roses. We were surprised to see so many people out in the afternoon. But it became clear at the harbor because the MSC Preziosa had arrived. Since Molde unfortunately didn't have much to offer and no cafes in the city center, we drove to the ferry to Vestnes. The passage through the Molde Fjord took about 35 minutes. In Fjellstova, we go to a functional motorhome parking lot to stay overnight. Alesund will have to wait until tomorrow.
