It was clear to us that the Scottish solitude would be hard to find in Southern Europe. And yet, us city dwellers long for the same peace that we experienced in the far north in 2018.
Maybe it's a bit much to ask for: beautiful nature, swimming spots, loads of vitamin D, and solitude all at once!
Maybe we're just in the wrong place. The 'No Vacancy' sign at the camp entrance definitely makes us a bit nervous, and we're considering crazy plans to cancel and move on. But where to? Anything declared an insider tip on the internet is probably just as lonely as Neuschwanstein Castle on a weekend in August.
So in the end, our departure plans are discarded just as quickly as we made them.
And then we finally find our garden of Eden: just beyond the town limits of tourist-infested Bovec, is the most beautiful trail we've ever hiked.
The Globoški Potok is actually more of a goat path than a real hiking trail.
Always along the gorge that we discovered while zooming on the zipline, although most of it remained hidden from us at 60km/h.
Today, at a much slower pace, a stunning landscape unfolds: sometimes rocky, sometimes covered in moss, trees with vines, small clearings with wildflowers;
and again and again, that spectacular view into the Učja gorge.
It's hard to keep my gaze on the narrow path to avoid falling. But despite the dense vegetation, the sun is burning and so we're overjoyed when we arrive at an 80-meter high waterfall after about 3km.
Since we haven't encountered a single soul during the entire time, we decide to forgo our swimwear and enjoy the clear water, which is actually slightly warmer than the water of the Soča. Granted, that's not saying much.
We can't understand why all these T5 van hipsters with Birkenstocks and tote bags want to be in nature but at the same time lack the willingness to take five steps into nature. But it doesn't matter. We can only be pleased. We've enjoyed the peace and have regained hope that these remote places still exist. Even in the south during peak season.
