Our flight took us from Honolula on O'ahu to Kona on the island of Hawaii. After leaving the cute Kona airport (consisting of open-plan wooden huts), we just wanted to touch some of the lava rock that was everywhere. So we stopped at the parking lot of the Kaloko-Honokohau National Historical Park. There, a park ranger told us that there were sea turtles down on the beach. So we quickly put on sunscreen and walked along lava rock paths to the beach. It was all pretty impressive (and very hot - in bright sunshine).
