31+32. Day: Kalamata is usually known for its extra large and specially fermented Kalamata olives. But otherwise, it hasn't made it into our travel guides. And indeed, at first glance, the small town (about the size of Kempten) is not particularly attractive. There are very few interesting historical buildings.
So why did we spend two days here? Because it offers many other amenities. Lots of pubs and good restaurants. Nowhere else have we eaten so well in Greece. There are countless cafes and ice cream parlors along the beach promenade, the pedestrian zone, and the old town. Supermarkets with a nice selection, a pebble beach with crystal clear water, and the mountain scenery in the background complete the picture. In the end, we really enjoyed spending the day sunbathing, swimming, strolling through the city, and indulging in culinary delights.
