When we arrived in the evening at Lac de Ste-Croix, it was already almost dark and we could only watch the magnificent sunset. But even during the day, the lake looks enchanting. The water is bright blue and the white stones in front of it create a successful contrast. For this reason, we decided the next morning to make ourselves comfortable with folding chairs on the shore and have breakfast there.
Afterwards, we set off for a walk on the beach. One couldn't get enough of the color and beauty of this lake. The small town (Les Salles sur Verdon) that could be reached from the beach looked very cute with its typical French houses. Apart from one man, we didn't meet a single person there, but that's probably because of the season.
Then we wanted to go shopping. This turned out to be more difficult than we thought. First, a half-hour drive through the mountains had to be taken before reaching the nearest supermarket. In Les Salles sur Verdon, there were not only no people, but also all the shops were closed. After we had done our major shopping, we drove back into the mountains and found a nice place to spend the night there.
This morning, we set off early to go hiking in the Verdon Gorge. After our drive through the Alps, we thought that a road could not be more winding, but we were proved wrong. The narrow road that led to the hike either wound its way through rocks or right along the abyss. The view up there, however, was magnificent! From time to time, we broke into a sweat, but it still somehow was fun to drive there. On the hike itself, we had a fantastic view of the crystal-clear river that flows through the gorge. We also walked through dark tunnels that were used in the past to transport water between the villages.
After this adventurous hike, we went to Montauroux, where we can now rest a bit.
