First of all, I would like to thank Miri and her family for inviting me to join them spontaneously!! :)
Southend-on-Sea is about an hour away from Hatfield and, as the name suggests, it is right by the sea.
So today was the first time since I've been in England that I went to the sea. Finally! I love the sea! No matter where in the world :) So this morning I woke up extremely happy at the thought of soon being at the sea and the beach.
We also had great weather for English standards! It was relatively warm, sunny at times and then a bit cloudy later on.
I didn't expect Southend-on-Sea to have such a summery feeling. Palm trees, blue sky, tropical-looking parks right by the shore - that's something for me :) When I show the pictures to someone, I often hear that this place cannot be in England. Even from English people! :D But yes, it's neither Photoshop nor photos from another place ;)
A special highlight is the pier, which is the longest pier in the world, measuring over 2km in length. We walked there and back, and there is actually a train that runs along the whole pier out into the sea. Windy, but very enjoyable with great views of the city, the shores, and the vast sea.
To put it in a nutshell: Southend-on-Sea is a beautiful, small English coastal town! I would love to go back there someday :)
Take care!
Yours,
Leonie
