Amed - Trekking Tour

פֿאַרעפֿנטלעכט: 25.02.2024

Hello guys and probably one last time hello from the great Amed,

Tomorrow is a travel day and for me it's going across the island to the southwest - to Seminyak. But before that, let me tell you about my last big adventure in the north of the island.

Because I not only think it's great to do nothing and sweat from it - no! - I also have to organize a trekking tour in these temperatures so that every last pore in my body starts to sweat. (Crazy, right?)

Well - I asked a local to guide me and for (almost ridiculous 12€) he picked me up at my hostel and took me to the mountains to show me the rice fields, the local 5 holy springs, and a hidden waterfall. And it was a really great experience and the local guide Nengah was just super nice and gave me all kinds of information about everything. Showed me plants and explained what the locals use them for. He could also have been a good photographer because he took really good photos of me.

The tour started with the 5 holy springs. The story says that these were the first springs here and each water from the springs tastes different (sweet, salty, bitter, earthy, and I forgot the last taste). However, I decided not to actually try the water because I didn't want to deal with several sessions in the toilet. The way to these springs and back led us through freshly planted rice fields, through a river, and also through Balinese thickets:

The mountain slopes with the hanging clouds simply look like something out of a Hollywood blockbuster with various dinosaurs. Simply breathtaking.

After that, it's about 10 minutes more uphill with the scooter and now really into the jungle. Nengah told me several times to be careful because it's quite slippery. However, I would like to mention that I mostly waved it off with a smile since I was the one with hiking shoes and not flip-flops with no tread. But I was more worried about not stepping on any snakes or other surprises in knee-high thickets. (Yes, I know they could have sensed/heard me from miles away and wouldn't have shown up anyway!)

According to the locals, there is a cave in the waterfall where gold is hidden. That's exactly why the waterfall is called that, even though it's not found on any map or even on Google Maps. A truly local hidden place!

After the tour, I went back to the hostel and then spent the afternoon blogging and thinking about how I want to spend the next days and also the last days on Bali, and what else I want to see on the island.

In short: Just one more sunset on the beach. Also, I should do laundry. So I made the decision easy for myself and looked for one of the few hostels on the island that offer a washing machine and checked if I can get to the beach relatively quickly from there. Maybe there's still time for a surf lesson too. Let's all be surprised by what else comes to my mind and until then, take care.

Greetings from the Island of the Gods,
Britta
