Tuesday, 23 July 2019 – Day 3
Off to the Colosseum, we have booked a guided tour. A very competent guide who speaks good German takes us to the Roman Forum and the Palatine (the highest hill here) and feeds us interesting information. For example, that garum was once produced here a long time ago. Then we go straight to the Colosseum on the fast lane - really impressive, you really have to see it.
It was also really good at Perdingianu & croccoriga - a Sardinian restaurant with good limoncello and a friendly host. And because it's so hot, we do what the Italians do - Riposo (Italian siesta), back to the hotel.
After a good rest, we go shopping and stroll around to the Monumento Nazionale a Vittorio Emanuele II., also known as the Altare della Patria (Altar of the Fatherland). The Romans call it the "typewriter". We head off to dinner at Bar Meccanismo , a cool burger joint in the Trastevere district.
In general, the city is bustling like crazy here on the banks of the Tiber at 9 p.m. It's beautiful and the elegantly lit Colosseum is even more beautiful.
