Day 12: Collect donations and then continue

פֿאַרעפֿנטלעכט: 24.07.2023

After breakfast, my wife says goodbye. At home, the garden and the new photovoltaic system, which is about to start operating, are calling.

I'll take care of my bike. The chain gets some oil, a little cleaning won't hurt. After all, I'm allowed to go to the MA restaurant with my bike in the operating facility.

I am warmly welcomed. The donations are flowing, over 700 € are collected. Plus Paypal donations, a colleague handles it very casually with one hand (sometimes I struggle with two hands....) Many good wishes accompany me to Berlin.

The colleagues of the works council give me something to take with me: a Leipziger Lerche, a lunch box and a craft beer 'Weisse Elster'. Obviously, they knew what I like... All of this in a beautifully designed bag - I'm really touched.

Even the kitchen has a Swabian noodle dish for me on offer - delicious!

Thank you Leipzig - you were amazing!

With a little sadness, I prepare my bike for the next journey - saying goodbye is difficult for me. On the bike path from Berlin to Leipzig, I pass large cornfields, some already harvested or the combine harvesters are at work. Then come the sunflower fields, beautiful to look at. Drops are falling, but as soon as I put on my raincoat and bike bag rain cover, it stops again.

I reach my daily destination Bad Düben in a relaxed ride. The accommodation is open, but the restaurant is closed. There are no other options (anymore). How good that I happen to have a beer with me....

During a short walk, it dawns on me that I stayed here in the Luther year when my wife and I cycled from Eisleben to Wittenberg. Back then, there was only something to eat at the Heide-Spa... The following guests have already stayed in my accommodation: Martin Luther, Gustav Adolf, and Napoleon. The latter didn't fare so well in the end...
