Karlsruhe in February

We're on the go

Today we just took a little trip to Karlsruhe.

The castle garden was still busy after 3 p.m. Lots of families with little ones on balance bikes took advantage of the weather to take a dry walk through the park.

Not much is blooming at this time of year, of course. But at least some early bloomers were showing themselves: witch hazel, Siberian squill, Chinese wintersweet, various types of snowdrops, winter aconites, and wild crocuses were showing themselves in the sun.

There were only a few boules players on the square in front of the castle. But the castle was occasionally in the sunshine - very beautiful. The exhibition THE 80S is still openuntil February 25th - it's worth it! Unfortunately, there was no indication of the Schlosslichtspiele in the summer. However, the Handel Festival is now being advertised, which will start soon.

We continued on to the Platz der Grundrechte (Square of BasicRights) and the Marktplatz (Market Square) with the pyramid, under which the founder of the city, Margrave Karl III. Wilhelm von Baden-Durlach, found his final resting place. The church that stood here before and housed his remains no longer exists since 1808 - but Karl was allowed tostay.

Now there is the Fool'sTree on the market square. It's made from the Christmas tree, with the lower branches simply cut off and the fools' guilds hanging their plaques on it. That's a sustainable idea.

Then we wanderedthrough the city center, and enjoyed an espresso at MAMA's Cafe & Bar, tooka look at the dome of the Kunsthalle; the rest is still beingrenovated. The street leading out of the city is still a very confusingconstruction site. However, work was even being done there today, on a Saturday. Who would have thought.

It was a nice littletour with sunshine, and a lot of other people enjoyed it too.

See you soon.
