Day 22: Franz Josef Glacier - Lake Hawea

The day starts sunny and warm, but during the car ride, the sky gets darker and it starts pouring rain. The winding road runs right next to a cliff from which waterfalls cascade. We put on our rain gear and take a short walk through a grove of palm trees to a huge waterfall. After a short time, our shoes are soaked, but it's more fun to walk directly through the puddles 😊

We spend the night right by Lake Hawea. A dreamlike place! The timing is perfect: thanks to the sun, we dare to take a swim in the icy water in the evening. Our exciting books lie untouched beside us all night; we are busy enjoying the view!
