After our program yesterday, we seem to be quite tired. We take a good and long break. Maybe it's also because it's quite cold in the room and we like to hide under the blanket. The cold seems to be extraordinary because they don't really have a heater and the houses are poorly insulated. There are also few people outside.
Yves is going for a jog today, combined with a little shopping. Meanwhile, Marco stays in the house and watches 'Dead Pool' via Youtube. After that, we have a cozy breakfast. By the way, this is the first time we are in an apartment of the host and her family. It's something different and you get to talk more often. They are very nice and helpful.
But we still want to continue today and fill Alfred's trunk again. In Fort Myers itself, not much arouses our interest, so we continue directly north. One highlight is the seven-mile long 'Sunshine Skyway Bridge' to St. Petersburg (Florida, not Russia ;-). For the crossing, you have to pay - it's called a 'Toll Road'. The cost of $1.25 is absolutely worth it and can even be paid in cash. A great road :-)
On the way in the car, we have discovered a new 'hobby'. We set a goal to photograph as many state license plates as possible by the end of the vacation. So we chase after the other cars, of course, taking into account the traffic rules. After today, we have already photographed 18/50 license plates. Here is a selection from North and South Carolina.
Afterwards, we continue to Treasure Island on the far west of St. Petersburg by the sea. By chance, we drive past the beach at sunset and once again experience a breathtaking sunset. After that, we go to our accommodation on this island. A brilliant shack awaits us. David welcomes us and shows us the apartment where he and a colleague live. Everything is there: pool table, longboards, grill, kayak, veranda with access to the sea, fireplace, a TV with a 3m screen diagonal, etc. Just fabulous. We even see 2 dolphins swimming past the house. In the evening, the National College Championship is also starting - about the second largest football event after the Super Bowl.
We end the day by having dinner, playing pool, and watching football.
