This morning we went to Kolmanskop, the ghost town about 10 km outside Lüderitz. It is an old German settlement founded by diamond seekers around 1900 and abandoned around 1930. Since then it has been decaying.
For a few years now, it can be visited with a German tour guide. The history that was told was extremely exciting, especially since we were led through the decaying houses, as far as they are still accessible, not without the obligatory warning to watch out for snakes which made the few flip flop visitors a bit concerned.
A few pictures should convey what could be seen, but they probably won't fully capture the reality.
In the afternoon we visited the small local museum, tried African cider (not bad by the way) and in the evening we had the obligatory fish dinner, the best tuna steak ever.... Tomorrow we will drive 500 km, including 400 km of gravel road, to Solitaire north of the biggest sand dunes in the world....
