The night noise
At the Reinhardt Inn, not only the furniture in the guest room is from earlier decades, but also the doors in the hotel rooms. The door panels are hollow and do not have effective sound insulation. The high-security bit key, in combination with the heavy key chain, makes a lot of noise when it hits the door panel when it is locked. The standard noise for guests returning at night.
The Morning: Rescue by Kelpe Bikes
A dream of a "bicycle shop": great ambience, wide selection of products, qualified workshop support and well-founded advice at fair prices.
While the workshop adjusted the steering head bearing and the speed lifter, the new multi-tool was selected to be prepared for the rest of the journey.
The new bags were fixed in place (you just need to have the right tools) and the weight on the bike was better distributed. Thanks again to the team at Kelpe Bikes.
The day:
Industrial culture Fagus factory in Alfeld
The Fagus factory is a UNESCO world cultural heritage site. The buildings were designed by Walter Gropius. Originally, shoe lasts were manufactured here. In addition to the architecture, there is an exhibition and a large museum. Due to time constraints, we were only able to see a small part of it. Everything is highly recommended.
The company founder Carl Benscheidt named his company after the material from which the lasts were produced at that time.
Today, the strips for industrial use are made exclusively from polyamide, as the material has significant advantages over wood: the strips are more dimensionally stable because there are no influences from temperature and humidity, and the chips can be recycled.
Industrial Culture Einbeck: ASTE
At the end of the 19th century, August Stukenbrok founded his own bicycle factory (August Stukenbrok Einbeck -> ASTE), with the aim of making bicycles affordable and accessible to everyone. He therefore became the first direct bicycle sales and mail order company in Germany.
In Einbeck we stayed at the Hotel Schwan so that we would have time for more culture and other things.
After checking into the hotel, we walked through the town to the Old Town Hall with its very funny-looking hats, opposite the ice cream parlor.
Maria had the engine oil flavor of ice cream, which was also not so easy to wipe off the face. It was still delicious.
