from Wellington, we went to Martinborough (a wine region) and then Greytown. Since everything in and around Martinborough was fully booked due to the weekend and party tourists, I booked an AirBnB in Greytown, which is 18km away. I stayed in a converted farmhouse located slightly outside of Greytown and owned by Vicki and Lionel.
The house is beautifully decorated, although they are still renovating the common areas. The bedrooms are already finished and very nice.
I arrived in Greytown in the late afternoon after my wine tasting in Martinborough. I settled into my room and Vicki and Lionel took me to a pub for dinner. There, I got to watch my first Kiwi Rugby game, which was surprisingly more fun than watching American Football.
Since I had never ordered chicken for a meal before, I decided to do so now.
It was a somewhat unusual combination: juicy roast chicken with a sweet pasta salad, olives, and boiled potatoes.
It wasn't the highlight of the day, that came at night! Since the house is located in the countryside with no neighbors nearby, it gets pitch dark at night. It was the perfect opportunity to observe the starry sky over New Zealand.
I was speechless! I had never seen anything like it before! I had never had the chance to see the Milky Way with the naked eye. It was incredibly beautiful. Unfortunately, I couldn't capture it in a photograph. It was breathtakingly stunning. The detour to Greytown was definitely worth it.
By the way, by searching for accommodation based on availability, I have discovered some hidden gems along the way. Greytown is one of them.
It mainly consists of a very picturesque main street lined with Victorian houses. At least in the city center. There are many home decor and antique shops, charming cafes, and galleries. I wasn't expecting this at all. It's much more beautiful than Martinborough.

Take the time to walk up and down the street and explore everything at a leisurely pace (it won't take long)
