Hello first of all,
To briefly introduce how this page works - it's actually relatively simple. At the top you will find all the pictures of the day, and below that will be the corresponding blog entry, possibly with individual pictures. On mobile, it should be more or less the same.
I'm writing these first lines here at an altitude of 10,365 meters and at a speed of nearly 900 km/h. We already have 7 hours behind us - 4 more to go. The flight is going well so far. The latest movies and series, delicious food, and unlimited drinks and snacks. Nevertheless, the flight feels quite long :-) That's why I treated myself to some 'WiFi' up here to shorten the last 4 hours a bit and start the first blog post (we'll be tired tonight, after all :-) ).
Everything went smoothly at the airport. After landing, we will pick up our car and drive to our first accommodation. From there, I will probably send a first video greeting and give a short update. All in all (including getting up, taking Cleo away, driving to the airport, picking up the car, customs clearance, etc.), we will have been on the road for about 20 hours in total.
The highlights of the flight were definitely flying over Greenland and being able to listen to radio communication from the tower in Frankfurt via the entertainment system. It's impressive what's going on there. The planes take off and land in seconds, and the radio communication is only marginally understandable for us mere mortals, with phrases like 'Lufthansa LH349 November Lima Hold', 'United UA59 wait for the LH777 and go Lima Lima 3', etc., on a continuous loop. I think it's no wonder they say the people in the tower have one of the most demanding jobs in the world.
Oh yes, we know that the current name sounds a bit like 'The Losers' - but I couldn't think of anything better quickly. And Luisa and USA somehow fit well :-) But we're open to better suggestions.
Generally, we will probably communicate briefly via video every day (trying to keep it to a maximum of 30 seconds so that it doesn't get too long for anyone) to let you know where we are, what we plan to do next, and you can read about what we have experienced so far (in more detail) here.
Update: after 3 hours of customs control and searching for our suitcases, we have finally arrived at our first accommodation.
So then...see you tomorrow :-)
